In 2021, ArcelorMittal in Luxembourg continued to deploy its CR (Corporate Responsibility) strategy. This is an ongoing process, in line with the Group's ambition to produce ever smarter steels that have a positive benefit for people and planet. The ArcelorMittal Group is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 globally, with a significant first step of reducing its emissions by 35% by 2030 in Europe. Steel, by its very nature, is a sustainable material as it can be fully recycled indefinitely. Over 95% of our steel production in Luxembourg comes from recycled scrap.

Despite a difficult environment that was still marked last year by the sanitary crisis, support for the associations and foundations selected by ArcelorMittal in Luxembourg was maintained. In the cultural field, the building of the partnership with Esch 2022, European Capital of Culture, was a highlight of the year. ArcelorMittal's commitment to Esch 2022 embodies the company's attachment to this region of the Grand Duchy where the steel industry was born, and its desire to support, as it has done for many years, local artistic expression and the influence of Luxembourg culture, following the example of the presence of Luxembourg steel products distributed throughout the world.

Another major event of the year was the ESR (Socially Responsible Company) audit, during which our business experts were interviewed by the INDR (Luxembourg Institute for Sustainable Development), which resulted in the renewal of our certification for a further three years. The changes made by the INDR also enabled us to obtain the "Responsibility Europe" label.

Also in 2021, three of our Luxembourg sites (Belval, Differdange and Rodange), were among the first in the world to have been recognised, by independent auditors, as meeting the ResponsibleSteel™ requirements, the first multi-stakeholder standardisation and certification initiative taken by the steel industry worldwide. This ResponsibleSteel™ audit gives each site the opportunity to demonstrate that its production meets strict standards covering a wide range of Social, Environmental and Governance (ESG) criteria.

In addition to this recognition of progress to date and new initiatives, other CR-related projects have continued to progress, such as the partnership with the Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology (LIST) which is developing constructively, in the areas of energy efficiency in our industrial facilities in particular.

ArcelorMittal in Luxembourg demonstrates its commitment to CSR through all its initiatives.
