PwC Luxembourg appoints 12 new partners to support the growth of its business activities

PwC Luxembourg, the largest professional services firm, has announced the appointment of 12 new partners. The firm, which currently employs over 2,200 people, is thus reaffirming its long-term confidence in the future of Luxembourg's economy and marketplace.

The appointment of our newest partners shows that we are willing to further develop new lines of business and innovative services to respond to our clients’ needs. This is also a proactive approach to supporting the Luxembourg economy

Didier Mouget, PwC Luxembourg’s Managing Partner

Five of these new partners are joining the Tax department: Thierry Braem (Real Estate Tax Consulting), Jean-Yves Lhommel (“Expertise Comptable et Fiscale”), Marc Rasch (Transfer Pricing), Guy van der Heyden (International Tax Structuring) and Maarten Verjans (Alternative Investment).

The Advisory department’s new partners are Fabio D’Aversa (Public Sector), Birgit Goldak (Governance, Risk and Controls), Lionel Nicolas (Consulting) and Nicolas Schulz (Regulatory Compliance Advisory Services).
Johan Blaise and Emmanuel Chataignier are strengthening the Audit practice.

Last but not least is Oliver Schachinger, who is joining the Luxembourg firm from PwC Frankfurt. He will be part of the Regulatory Compliance Advisory Services practice within the Advisory department. He will also support the Global Tax Compliance clients and teams in the operational implementation of a number of tax changes which are on the horizon.

These 12 specialists will promote PwC’s values and ambitions and are all renowned experts in their field. They also share a vision and a mission: help the firm and the country to grow by excelling in their area of expertise.

Thierry Braem: Tax partner, Real Estate Tax Consulting
After working as a tax lawyer in Paris, Thierry Braem joined PwC Luxembourg’s real estate tax practice in 2005. Thierry specialises in tax structuring for real estate and infrastructure funds. He also advises several promoters on the implementation of debt fund structures as well as their legal and tax aspects.

Jean-Yves Lhommel: Tax Partner, Expertise Comptable et Fiscale
Jean-Yves Lhommel joined PwC in 2011. He has extensive experience in Luxembourg and international taxation and works on a number of international structures, including in the private equity sector.

Marc Rasch: Tax Partner, Transfer Pricing
Marc Rasch joined the Transfer Pricing department in 2010. He is an expert in financial and commercial services. During his career, Marc Rasch also worked in the Netherlands and in France.

Guy van der Heyden: Tax Partner, International Tax Structuring
Guy van der Heyden started working in PwC’s International Tax Structuring department in 2004. He is one of the main contact persons within PwC Luxembourg for tax structures for Belgian groups and companies. Guy van der Heyden also led the Luxembourg tax desk of PwC New York from April to December 2009.

Maarten Verjans: Tax Partner, Alternative Investment
Maarten Verjans joined the firm in 2011. As a private equity expert, he advises, among other clients, alternative investment fund companies from south-east Asia. Before joining PwC Luxembourg, Maarten Verjans worked as a tax adviser in the Netherlands, in France and in Luxembourg.

Fabio D’Aversa: Advisory Partner, Public Sector
Fabio D’Aversa joined PwC Luxembourg’s public sector practice in 2006. He is a macroeconomics expert and public finance management specialist. Fabio D’Aversa is in charge of managing projects on behalf of European institutions.

Birgit Goldak: Advisory Partner, Governance, Risk and Controls
Birgit Goldak joined the Luxembourg firm in 2001. Her area of expertise is anti-money-laundering regulations. She has gained considerable experience in the asset management industry. Birgit Goldak is a member of PwC’s “Fight Against Financial Crime” group.

Lionel Nicolas: Advisory Partner, Consulting
Lionel Nicolas joined PwC Luxembourg in 2003. He is an investment fund expert and specialises in EMIR-related issues (European Market Infrastructure Regulation). Lionel Nicolas has been involved in several consulting projects in the investment fund industry and the banking sector.

Oliver Schachinger: Advisory Partner, Regulatory Compliance Advisory Services
Oliver Schachinger started his career at PwC Berlin in 2003. He then worked for PwC Frankfurt where he was in charge of real estate, infrastructure and private equity services. Oliver Schachinger will join the Regulatory Compliance Advisory Services team within the Advisory department and he will act as an expert in German regulations and tax law.

Nicolas Schulz: Advisory Partner, Regulatory Compliance Advisory Services
Nicolas Schulz joined PwC Luxembourg in 2000. He is an expert in the regulations governing undertakings for collective investment, management companies and other service providers.

Johan Blaise: Audit partner
Johan Blaise has been with PwC Luxembourg since 1999. He is an expert in Luxembourg investment funds and in the auditing of private equity structures managed by international groups. He is a qualified “réviseur d’entreprises” (registered auditor).

Emmanuel Chataignier: Audit partner
Emmanuel Chataignier has been with PwC Luxembourg since 2000. He has been involved in the auditing of numerous investment funds managed by international managers. He is a qualified “réviseur d’entreprises” (registered auditor).
