INCERT is very delighted to announce that 2020 marks a new start for its international development, thanks to its new approach on the cybersecurity of connected cars. As a concrete example, INCERT is collaborating with HARMAN, a global leader in the automotive industry, in a project where INCERT focuses on the supply of a packaged solution around a cryptographic Key Management System (KMS) for worldwide car manufacturer leaders.

A strong answer to the industry transformation needs:

Taken that the number of connected cars is rapidly increasing and that cars are gradually turning into digital devices, we can see why the landscape of risks is constantly growing. Thus, a top priority for car manufacturers is to secure the data processing and software updates through the whole lifetime of cars. Many cyber-security solutions apply cryptographic methods and require a careful and secure management of cryptographic keys. Under these terms, the two stakeholders proceeded to a long-term agreement, in which INCERT is providing high expertise in critical infrastructures and strategic software development. Specifically, the Key Management System (KMS) designed by INCERT generates, signs and manages keys for secure communications between the components of a connected car, for in-vehicle and off-board applications.

INCERT, as a public agency, has the role to promote internationally Luxembourg’s know-how in terms of cybersecurity and digital solutions. The agency provides an answer and a long-term value to the current needs of the markets and their future evolution. INCERT employees are proud to work along with HARMAN on specialized IoT (Internet of Things) technologies, and to be involved in improving the authentication, confidentiality and integrity protection of connected cars. INCERT expects a win-win approach, full of successes for both entities. Particularly, Benoit Poletti, CEO, and Sylvain Arts, Chief Business Officer mentioned that:

“This collaboration with a well-recognized worldwide player illustrates the relevance of the technical expertise of our agency, which has been constantly growing since its foundation in 2012. Moreover, we consider that it is also important to act as a driver of leveraging the Luxembourg cybersecurity ecosystem. We are confident that this project will allow all parties to further explore synergies around the development of the cybersecurity landscape for connected cars, and to work more specifically on future regulations and standards.”
