ING News: Express Shop vending machine installed for ING Night Marathon in Luxembourg collects EUR 2,750 for “Médecins Sans Frontières” (Doctors without borders)!
On 28 May, ING installed a vending machine at Luxexpo Exhibition and Congress Center for the 11th annual ING Night Marathon in Luxembourg. The machine's wares included ING products, such as watches, t-shirts, key chains, gym bags, headphones, and more
The initiative was a huge success. As a result, ING Luxembourg will donate all of the proceeds – EUR 2,750 – to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders) Luxembourg (MSF) in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
Each effort is a pledge for a life
The funds will be used to support projects for emergency and humanitarian medical aid in the 70+ countries where MSF operates. MSF saves lives by providing medical aid during armed conflicts, epidemics and natural disasters, and for refugees and people without access to medical treatment.
Depending on the situation, MSF can perform emergency surgery, invest in hospitals and medical centres, provide maternal care, deploy mobile teams to provide medical and psychiatric consultations, intervene in displacement and refugee camps, conduct search and rescue operations at sea, provide specific care to those suffering from malnutrition – particularly children – and more. If necessary, MSF digs wells, distributes drinking water and supplies equipment to build shelters.
2015 at a glance:
- MSF treated 32,600 people for cholera,
- MSF treated 2,299,200 people for malaria,
- MSF admitted 181,600 children to inpatient and outpatient feeding programmes,
- MSF treated 45,900 patients for measles and vaccinated a total of 1,537,400 people,
- MSF vaccinated 326,100 people against meningitis,
- MSF provided medical care for 340,700 people with HIV/AIDS and antiretrovirals (ARVs) for 247,000 infected people.
To give you an idea of how far this donation can go, EUR 2,750 could provide 27 mobile clinics with medicines and equipment.
That's why ING is proud to have contributed the proceeds from its 28 May initiative to MSF's efforts to bring medical care to the least fortunate and save lives.
