We have an important role to play when it comes to road safety. By helping consumers be better informed, we can help them to be safe, at home and abroad

Hugues Despres, Goodyear’s Brand Director EMEA

Goodyear announces today that the upgraded version of its European Road Safety App for iPhone and Android is available for free download via the app store, and is poised to support thousands of families driving across Europe this summer.

The app is designed to help guide tourists through other European country road laws and requirements, which may differ from their country of origin. Users get an overview of 25 European countries, including Austria, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland. Amongst other details, the European Road Safety App provides such information as speed limits on highways and in the cities, alcohol levels allowed for drivers, tips for a safer drive, how to act in case of an accident, local emergency phone numbers, and so forth.

The app also contains useful audio translations in 6 languages for emergency situations. Requests include "Please call the police!", "Can you call a tow truck, please?", "You are an important witness: can I please have your name and details", and more.

The free app was developed by Goodyear in support of the company’s ongoing drive to improve road safety in Europe. Available in English, German, Spanish, Italian, French and, from now on, also in Dutch, the app can be used on iPhone and iPad and on Android smartphones.

“We have an important role to play when it comes to road safety. By helping consumers be better informed, we can help them to be safe, at home and abroad”, according to Hugues Despres, Goodyear’s Brand Director EMEA. “As a leading tire manufacturer we strive to help make our customer’s drive safer and more qualitative. We are extending that role beyond the product by taking initiatives like these to the road across Europe”.

The application is free of charge and currently available in 6 languages (DE, EN, ES, FR, IT, NL). The company plans to explore how it can expand the application’s functions and tools in the future. The Goodyear Safety App is an independent tool that, once downloaded, can be used across the range of functions without being connected to the Internet.
