ING NEWS: Nearly one-third of Luxembourg residents feel obliged to spend money at Christmas!
In its most recent survey, ING International Survey looked at how consumers view Christmas spending and what they think about the gifts they receive.
32% of Luxembourg residents feel obliged to spend money at Christmas, versus 42% of Europeans. Similarly, nearly 8 in 10 Luxembourgers (78%) think that the holiday period is too focussed on spending, compared with 7 in 10 people
(70%) in Europe.
10% of Luxembourg residents (vs 15% of Europeans) say they received at least one gift last year that they did not like or will never use.
Of that 10%, 53% gave the gifts away, 55% kept them anyway and 17% donated them to a charitable organisation.
When it comes to putting money aside for the Christmas period, only 21% of Luxembourgers say they actively save money, compared with 42% of Europeans.
When asked if they hope to receive a particular gift, 83% of Luxembourg residents (vs 76% of Europeans) said they do not yet know what they want for Christmas this year.
