Cargolux moves up in IATA ranking to number six
IATA’s data and analysis of the Top 25 cargo carriers for April 2016 show that Cargolux has moved up in the ranking and now stands at number six in international scheduled FTKs. It is the highest position that Cargolux reached throughout its history. Cargolux, together with Cargolux Italia, has achieved an FTK growth of 5.4% against April 2015.
With these numbers, Cargolux has again outperformed the industry which showed 3.1% growth for April, year-on-year. Global capacity growth was fairly constant with a monthly average of 6.1% so far. Industry-wide year-to-date traffic decreased by 1.2%, mainly due to slower traffic from Asian and North America carriers as last year’s year-to-date traffic was boosted by the US West Coast Seaport disruption in the first quarter.
Cargolux has surpassed Korean Air and FedEx in the latest IATA ranking. For April 2016 alone, the Group registered a scheduled traffic volume growth of 11.5%. As expected, the Gulf carriers still lead the field with 7.9% growth and Emirates, with a market share of 6.9%, remains in first place, followed by Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa. Cargolux achieved a load factor of 66.6% in April and with that, the airline is moving in on Lufthansa, who reached 67.2%. Cathay Pacific with 63.5% and Air France/KLM with 60.9% are trailing Cargolux.
These results again show that Cargolux is well on the way of being the ‘Global Cargo Carrier of Choice’. With Cargolux Italia well established and Cargolux China poised for take-off, the Cargolux Group is rapidly moving to a truly global operation with multiple hubs.
