Appointment of Benoît Piccart as Head of Corporate Governance for Baloise Luxembourg
After more than 30 years with Baloise, Marc Folmer, Head of Corporate Governance, will retire on May 31, 2024. Marc has played a key role in strengthening the compliance and governance functions essential to the company’s ongoing success.
With over 20 years’ experience, mainly in local and international life insurance, Benoît Piccart succeeds him. Over the course of his career, Benoît has held strategic positions dealing with legal and tax issues, compliance, corporate governance, product management and wealth planning. He has also developed a deep understanding of our customers’ complex needs, an asset he acquired in particular at the start of his career in a sales function.
Benoît has developed his expertise seamlessly in the Luxembourg financial sector, within various groups and companies:
- Octium Group (2017): after joining Banque Havilland in 2017 as Group Head of Legal, Benoît moved to the affiliated structure Octium, a Luxembourgbased international insurance group specialized in the design, structuring and distribution of privately managed life insurance products. Over the past 6 years, he has held the positions of Group General Counsel and Group Chief Legal & Compliance, in charge of overseeing Legal, Compliance & Corporate Governance matters.
- IWI (2008): for over 8 years, he worked for International Wealth Insurer (“IWI”), now Wealins, first as General Secretary, Head of Solutions & Compliance, then as Chief Legal Officer.
- Swiss Life (2002): after starting out as Legal Counsel and setting up the Compliance function, he took on the role of Head of the Legal and Compliance Department for 3 years.
- AME Life Lux (2000): he began his career as a sales consultant responsible for developing the insurance portfolio of a Belgian and local clientele.
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to Marc Folmer for his leadership, expertise and unwavering commitment to Baloise. His dedication has been essential in supporting and growing our business. We wish him all the best in his new adventures. I am delighted to welcome Benoît Piccart as his successor. His legal and regulatory skills acquired in senior positions will be crucial in continuing to strengthen our governance and meet the complex challenges of our industry”, explains Dr. Christine Theodorovics, CEO of Baloise Luxembourg.
