ISO 50001: the energy management standard

ISO 50001 recognises companies that have introduced an energy management system (EMS) to lower their energy consumption and spending, and thereby reduce their carbon footprint. The launch and coordination of this EMS within the organisation were assessed by ESCEM and certified by TÜV Rheinland®.

An approach at the heart of the bank’s policy

As part of a determined approach to reduce the carbon footprint, Béatrice Belorgey, Chair of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas and Head of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg, and Bénédicte Monneron, Chief Operating Officer and member of the BGL BNP Paribas Executive Committee, signed an Energy Policy Statement on 24 August 2021, requiring the bank to maintain its commitment to sustainable development by reducing its energy consumption and improving the energy efficiency of its buildings.

For this energy policy to be successful, two factors are decisive. At first, the appointment of a multi-disciplinary energy team to manage, coordinate and regularly update the Energy Management System in place. Then - despite the bank’s Kirchberg buildings being highly energy efficient - the commitment and support of all staff as well as service providers and other site occupants, who actively contribute to energy savings by permanently adopting environmentally friendly behaviour.

ISO 50001 certification reflects the bank’s determination to have a positive impact. It results from a sustainable energy management strategy initiated more than 10 years ago.

Béatrice Belorgey welcomed the ISO 50001 certification: “The teams at BGL BNP Paribas are proud to have obtained this certification. It encourages us to continue our efforts in terms of energy efficiency and environmental protection.”
