In Luxembourg, the Bank has decided to link its CSR action with its clients and the use of its products.  Concretely, ING Luxembourg donates one euro cent to UNICEF-Luxembourg for every transaction made with an ING Luxembourg VISA card throughout the year. In 2014, the Bank had already given 32,500 EUR to UNICEF-Luxembourg.

On 3 March 2015, Luc Verbeken, CEO ING Luxembourg, had the pleasure to present a cheque of 35,000 EUR this time. This sum represents an important step in the financing of  schools in Zambia. For 60,000 EUR indeed, UNICEF is able to build a school with 3 classrooms, including school equipment, sanitary facilities, a water pump and cover labour and transportation costs. The total amount of 67,500 EUR donated in 2 years will allow UNICEF to make its project more concrete.

“ING has decided to pursue its initiative of the last 2 years and continue to support educational projects in the poorest regions in the world.  That is why our Visa action will be renewed in 2015 and the amounts collected will be invested in innovative education models, which will benefit to 250,000 teenagers in Zambia. I look forward to meeting you beginning next year for an overview of the 2015 Visa action.”, explained M. Luc Verbeken, Chief Executive Officer ING Luxembourg.

« After providing many Zambian children with a primary education these last two years via for example the construction of new schools, we will help them build their future by supporting them in the next step of their lives as teenagers. We will allow them to acquire more education as well as the necessary social skills to manage everyday life questions in a responsible and autonomous way.», declared Sandra Visscher, Director of UNICEF-Luxembourg.

About the “Chances for Children” campaign

The global “Chances for Children” campaign regroups the know-how of UNICEF and the sense of social responsibility by ING. UNICEF and ING have been partners since 2005, in favour of education projects in several countries in the world. Education represents the key for a better future for all future generations.

In Zambia, which is one the poorest countries in the world, access to quality education is really difficult because schools are often located very far from the villages. Moreover, the way to school is often dangerous and children are often the victims of abuse, which can prevent some parents from sending their daughters to school. Together with UNICEF-Luxembourg, ING aims at building schools, train teachers, provide the children with school equipment and protect them in order to offer them an education as well as a better future and a good health.
