As of 31st of January 2014, the regulations concerning liquids in hand luggage, established by the European Union, are changing.
Two changes are being made: Drugs or products for medical use as well as liquid baby food or particular dietary needs, will now be subject to specific security controls using new liquids screening machines. Lux-Airport invested 150 000 Euros in this new equipment.

During security checks, passengers must present these liquids separately from their personal belongings. If the liquid does not meet the criteria stated in the regulations, it will be refused on board.

Regarding connecting flights, if passengers hold liquids purchased in European duty-free airport shops (including Switzerland, Norway and Iceland) or on board, they must be kept in the sealed bag provided by the airport or airline and the proof of purchase must be included in the bag. This is a relaxation of previous rules where these liquids were confiscated by authorities.

These restrictions still allow passengers to take liquids on board with a total volume which do not exceed 1 liter. Tubes or bottles containing liquids shall not exceed a capacity of 100 milliliters each and should be put together in a clear and re-sealable plastic bag with a capacity not exceeding 1 liter. This bag must also be presented during security checks.

As a reminder, the definition of "liquids, aerosols and gels" includes cream, lotions, liquid /solid mixtures and the contents of pressurized containers such as toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfumes, shaving foam and other items of similar consistency. These new EU liquid screening methods are aimed to relax liquid restrictions in the future.

Passengers which would like more information, a flyer is available at Luxembourg Airport.
