Luxair removes masks on board its aircraft to Luxembourg and the destinations authorizing it
From Monday, 16 May 2022 and in accordance with the new recommendations of the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency), wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory on board Luxair flights to Luxembourg. This new measure also applies to flights to destinations that allow the wearing of a mask to be lifted.
Since the start of the Covid-19 situation, Luxair has supported the resolutions of the IATA (International Air Transport Association) regarding the "implementation of simplified regimes to manage the risks associated with Covid-19" and advocates the easing of the heavy measures and restrictions applied to air transport. As such, Luxair welcomes the lifting of the wearing of masks initiated by EASA. Indeed, EASA no longer imposes the mandatory wearing of masks on the plane.
In order to guarantee the safety of its passengers and staff, Luxair reminds that it carries out air filtration on board all its aircraft. In addition, the air inside the entire Luxair fleet is cleaner than outside because it is continuously mixed with a large amount of fresh outside air, representing more than 60% of the air in the cabin. Since the air filtration in the cabin is 99.99% efficient and renewed on average every 3 minutes, most pollutants such as dust, allergens, bacterial or viral organisms, such as Covid-19, are therefore eliminated.
Given the fact that air transport in Luxembourg is not subject to the rules applied to public transport, Luxair, as a company governed by private law, must first of all observe the international rules issued by the competent authorities in matters of aviation. The airline can thus apply the necessary measures by authorizing the lifting of the mask for all its flights to Luxembourg and according to the destinations served, in accordance with EASA recommendations.
However, the airline highlights the lack of a globally consistent approach to mask wearing in air travel. In addition, it is the local regulations of the destinations served by the airline (see list below – this list may be subject to change) that will apply and govern whether or not a mask is mandatory on board Luxair aircraft.
When flying abroad, Luxair alerts its passengers to the need to keep themselves well informed of the regulations applied by their destination in terms of wearing a mask. The airline also reminds that a dedicated team is in charge of daily updating the rules and entry regulations for each destination it serves.
All information relating to entry rules and wearing a mask can be found on its website www.luxair.lu
Luxair, however, invites all passengers who wish to, to continue wearing a mask on board its aircraft and calls on all of its passengers to respect the choice of others. To do this, the airline keeps a stock of FFP2 masks on board for passengers who wish to wear them.
