Mon Jardin has opened on 1 March in Dippach under new ownership

A new chapter begins for Mon Jardin, the garden centre with associated gardening and landscaping business. After more than 40 years in Schifflange, the family business has now moved to Dippach. Mon Jardin is taking over the infrastructures of Pépinières & Paysagiste Jean-Paul Krämer in Dippach. This is because the question of succession arose in both businesses. 25-year-old Joé Hoffmann, grandson of Mon Jardin founders Aloyse Hoffmann and Louise Calmes, will steer the companies into the future.

Three entrepreneurs, one passion: making garden dreams come true. From left to right: Jean-Paul Krämer, Aloyse Hoffmann and Joé Hoffmann.

On an area of 1.8 hectares, customers can expect Mon Jardin’s proven portfolio of services and products. Plants are always at the centre of the company’s philosophy. A complete package has been put together around them. From high-quality soil to on-site site analysis.

The goal: competent support in all steps of garden design. The name Mon Jardin has been part of the programme since the beginning in 1976. Model gardens offer a wide range of inspiration as to how one’s own green paradise can look. One of their specialisations is biological swimming pools. The organic microflora ensures clean, chemical-free water.

At the same time, the merging of the know-how of the two companies creates an interesting extension of the offer. The speciality of Pépinières & Paysagiste Jean-Paul Krämer is solitary trees. “Our trees have character”, emphasises Jean-Paul Krämer. For instance, a bonsai with its curvy trunk and intricately shaped tray, or an old, fully grown tree. “As for decoration, we also want to offer a selection that is beyond the normal portfolio of wholesalers.” No mass-produced goods – that is the motto. Jean-Paul Krämer will initially continue to work in the business for some time before retiring and will be on hand to offer his experience.

The path of growing together

It is a story of three entrepreneurs – and of cross-generational innovation. Joé Hoffmann recently completed his Master of Science in Civil Engineering at the ETH Zurich. A semester abroad took him to Singapore, and other stops included Basel, Hamburg and Cologne. He grew up in his grandfather’s gardening business from an early age, he says. The profession has a special appeal for him. “You see the aesthetic results of the work – and feel the enthusiasm of the customers who want to treat themselves to something beautiful. Who can say that they are able to sell joy? Passing the responsibility now into the hands of his grandson also gives Aloyse Hoffmann joy. “It means we are and will remain a real family business.”

The move took place last autumn. Several trucks drove full to the brim from Schifflange to Dippach. The opening of the new Mon Jardin location was held on 1 March 2021. Just in time for the start of the gardening season.

For the new owner Joé Hoffmann, one thing is certain: “We want to remain a family business, greet and advise our customers personally. And bring together the best of the two worlds of Mon Jardin and Pépinières & Paysagiste Jean-Paul Krämer. In doing so, we are committed to the tradition, the values and, above all, the customers of both houses. At the same time, we will carefully create new innovations and make our service offer modern and accessible.”
