Game of Code 2020 – Winners of the Hack The Future’s Challenge
After a non-stop, 36-hr coding sprint, coders from around the world reached the finish line. Game of Code 2020, supported by Docler Holding, LuxHUB, and Digital Luxembourg, and organised by Farvest, began online on October 9th and concluded Sunday afternoon, October 11th, at The House of Startups Luxembourg.
"This online Game of Code edition offers to developers the opportunity to join from afar and the great success of this online format will give us the opportunity to open the competition to a larger audience in the years to come. It already began this year, with the registration of 30 teams, representing 130 coders, joining from Russia, Colombia, India, the Philippines... among others, and 450 participants who followed the competition on the Youtube live-streaming. We continue to learn from this crisis”, said Kamel Amroune, CEO of Farvest.
Of the three challenges, Docler’s Hack the Future had 20 teams participating, with coders from Europe to Far East Asia. The judges – Carlos Gonser (Engineering Manager), Tamer Aidek (Vice President of Software Development and Cloud Solutions, Tao Testing), and Vincent Eggen (CEO, Pictet Technologies) – searched for an app or web solution that would play a role in saving lives, supporting communities, fostering education, and protecting businesses amid this worldwide health crisis. Docler handed out prizes of €10,000, €5,000, and €2,000 to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, respectively.
In third place came Labbr, which created a smart alternative to support the events industry. Learnbox developed a solution to improve the quality of virtual calls and classes via artificial intelligence elements, followed in second place. First place and the winners of the challenge was team Binoculars that created a feasible solution to help individuals return to day-to-day activities through publicly available data while respecting individual privacy.
Kolos Kaszaly, Docler Holding’s Chief Technology Officer, spoke about the magnitude and importance of technology in the current global environment.
“We were very happy to be a part of this endeavor for the 5th consecutive year. As we are a tech company with over 200 engineers, it is important for us to embrace digital innovation and act as an incubator of technology, coding, and creativity. Following the success of our HackTheCrisis in April, we felt that it was necessary to create a challenge that reflects the times we are living in. Hack the Future looked to find the most unique solutions that could save lives, communities, education, and businesses. These groups have been heavily impacted by the global pandemic, and our mission was to choose the team with the best solution, one code at a time.”
